Certificate in Basic Understanding of Forensic Science

ONLINE - Forensic science is an ideal career for someone with a love of science, a knack for problem-solving, good investigative skills, and careful attention to detail. This revised certificate program provides forensic science education for those who seek an introduction to the field, as well as an opportunity to evaluate their readiness for such a career. And, these forensic science courses are completely online!
In our forensic science education program, you will gain relevant and practical information on the use of modern forensic science as an investigative tool. Throughout this program, you will develop a better understanding of forensic investigative principles, from documentation to the structure of the human body. You will also develop the knowledge to effectively communicate with scientists and the courts regarding forensic work.
This online certificate consists of six required forensic science courses totaling 57 hours of online lecture and discussion. The certificate graduate will receive 5.7 Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
Program Objective
Upon completion of the certificate programs, graduates will be able to:
- Use appropriate forensic documentation and communication
- Understand the general forensic methods and scientific principles of investigations
- Use appropriate crime scene documentation
- Examine and interpret data from laboratory testing
- Understand human and physical factors that affect the interpretation of crimes
- Provide expert testimony at deposition or trial
