THE PROGRAM
The MS in Counseling prepares you to work in a variety of interesting environments including schools, mental health agencies, government services, businesses, and in private practice. The courses qualify you to pursue MFT and LPCC licensure. The program is structured for working professionals, but is appropriate for anyone interested in earning a graduate degree on a part-time schedule. This degree program features the same high quality curriculum and faculty as the full-time degree.
LOCATION
All classes are held in the evening at Cal State Fullerton's Garden Grove Center.
ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS
Admission is based upon indicators of the applicant's potential for becoming an effective counseling practitioner, including a completed bachelor’s degree, a high grade point average (GPA), letters of reference, personal statement and Departmental interview. Admission is not based upon any single factor but on a composite assessment of all factors. More detail...

PROGRAM FEATURES
CACREP Accreditation
The program is accredited by CACREP which allows graduates to work with VA and Tricare (military health plan). Cal State Fullerton is one of only six CA universities with this distinction.
Cohort Format
Students complete the program in a cohort format, taking two evening courses each term. Courses are guaranteed each term and the group of students remains together throughout the program.
Program Duration
The MS in Counseling program consists of 60 units (or 20 courses). It will take slightly less than 3 1/2 years to complete the program. Academic terms include Fall, Spring, and Summer. Fall and Spring terms are 16 weeks in length. Summer is 10-12 weeks.
Tuition
Tuition is currently $425 per unit. Textbooks, parking and other instructional materials must be purchased separately. Unit cost is subject to change.
PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION
Curriculum, faculty, and academic advisement are managed by the CSUF Counseling Department. CSUF University Extended Education facilitates the program, handling registration and collection of fees. The part-time MS in Counseling program at Garden Grove is a self-support degree program (not funded by state tax revenue). Therefore, the tuition reflects a slightly higher rate than similar programs held on the CSUF campus. The same accredited degree is awarded for both programs.
REGISTRATION & STUDENT HANDBOOK
Upon admission to the program, students will receive registration information for all courses and a Student Handbook. Registration, payment of fees, and all other student services will be processed through University Extended Education.
