Certificate in Financial Planning and Management for Nonprofit Organizations

Program
This one-semester Financial Planning and Management for Nonprofit Organizations Certificate was designed to help board members, nonprofit staff, accountants, and attorneys better understand and meet the unique challenges of financial planning and management for nonprofit organizations. This comprehensive program takes you from the nuts and bolts of how a nonprofit is established, to an exploration of important issues critical to maintaining your nonprofit status, avoiding legal problems, and onto day-to day-operations issues.

Topics in the Financial Planning and Management for Nonprofit Organizations Certificate include human resources and staffing issues, how nonprofit financial practices differ from business and personal financial practices, the challenges of fundraising, tax issues, accounting practices, budgeting, cash management and investments. The five convenient evening classes in the Financial Planning and Management for Nonprofit Organizations Certificate total 45 hours. The certificate graduate will receive 4.5 Continuing Education Units (CEUs).

Program Objective
Graduates of the certificate program will be able to:
- Create and implement an operating budget using fund accounting principles
- Develop policies and procedures for investment and cash management
- Understand legal and fiduciary responsibilities of staff and board members
- Develop appropriate financial statements for internal and external audiences
- Develop appropriate policies and procedures for financial management


Who Should Attend
- Individuals who have financial management responsibilities for nonprofit organizations
- CPAs who work for and/or with nonprofit organizations
- Employees who work in bookkeeping, accounting and controller positions in nonprofit organizations

Eligibility
The program is open to all interested persons. Certificate candidates must complete all classes with verified attendance and complete any assignments and/or projects. You may also enroll in individual classes.
