Program
Learn how to research, prepare and write a grant proposal in this hands-on, comprehensive certificate. At the completion of this in-depth certificate program, you will have developed a draft of a viable grant proposal application. Through lecture, discussion and online research, you will learn the basic elements of grant seeking, including researching funding sources, planning a project, budgeting and project evaluation. Special attention is given to research using Internet resources.
The Certificate in Grant Proposal Preparation consists of one required course totaling 30 hours of lecture, classroom discussion, online study, and online research (15 hours of this will be completed online). The certificate graduate will receive 3.0 Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
Program Objective
At the completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Monitor funding sources at the federal, state and local levels
- Find and access appropriate listservs to aid in identifying and tracking grants
- Utilize the Federal Register
- Efficiently navigate applicable Web sites
- Confirm eligibility for funding with the granting agency
- Assess the match between funding agency and applicant
- Contact appropriate staff at the funding agency for assistance
- Develop and write a budget and budget narrative
- Develop and write a proposal narrative including description of implementation
- Develop a plan for publicizing the project
- Describe insurance and liability issues
- Develop and write an evaluation plan including measurable objectives and procedures for collection and analysis of data
- Assemble an actual grant proposal for submission to a grant agency

- City or county employees who work with seniors, parks and recreation, community services, arts, human services, housing, policing, redevelopment, the fire department or similar agencies
- Leaders in PTA or other organizations formed to support schools
- Leaders in nonprofit organizations interested in developing partnerships to seek tax-supported funding
- Nonprofit-based grant writers who wish to learn more about grant-based funding from public sources
