Fullerton Arboretum Biology
Science Education Courses for K-8 Teachers

Join us at the Fullerton Arboretum for this 3-class series of professional development classes designed to help teachers meet the California Science Content Standards requirements.

For each class, participants will meet for an 8-hour hands-on field workshop at the Fullerton Arboretum, with the rest of the coursework completed online (7 hours). Online activities will include the development of a lesson plan, activities for the classroom as well as the use of interactive, grade-appropriate Web-based resources. Upon successful class completion, 1 unit of credit will be awarded.

Participants will:

  • Develop knowledge in plant biology
  • Learn the concepts of inquiry-based teaching for science instruction in Plant Biology and Life Science, specific to each grade level
  • Be engaged with hands-on science activities that emphasize higher-order thinking and 21st century skill development
  • Explore connections to literature, mathematics, and social studies

The Fullerton Arboretum is a 26-acre botanical garden located on the Cal State Fullerton campus, serving the community as a resource for ecological, horticultural and historical education. It’s the perfect setting for this series of science courses.

Information on summer course offerings will be available in March 2010.
